Artlogic Design System

I led the development of a new design system to create a more consistent, distinctive and scalable foundation for Artlogic’s products. Starting with the business case and an audit of our existing libraries and product, I defined the visual principles and overall system structure, working with the team to shape the tokens, components and implementation. The system was brought into code and connected to our emerging agentic development workflow. The result was a shared foundation designed to be both distinctly Artlogic and practical to build with.

01

Make the case
A shared foundation

Established the business case for a design system, defining the problems it would solve and the value it could bring to product development.

02

Audit & define
Assess what we had

Audited the existing interface and component usage to identify inconsistencies, duplication and opportunities to simplify.

03

Design the system
Create the foundations

Defined the visual language, tokens and core components needed to create a more consistent product experience.

04

Build and connect
Make it usable

Worked with engineering to align the design system with the codebase, creating a shared source of truth for design and development.

Design debt report

An AI-assisted audit of the codebase revealed significant design debt — from duplicated styles to inconsistent values and a lack of systematic foundations.

Rationalising the system

This provided a clear basis for rationalising the existing styles and introducing a more consistent, systematic set of values.
